I know it’s officially autumn already, but these unusual hot Michigan temperatures keep making me think we’ve been given a few extra weeks of summer.
To close summer down, I am going to share some of our favorite summer locations, products and memories.
I’ve loved Pentwater since I was young. The quaint little shopping town (with the Cosmic Candy Co!!!), the beautiful soft-sand beaches, and the fact that it’s only about a 90 minute drive from our home.
I’ve stayed in the marina before, and camped at Mears State Park before, but this year, we camped at Whispering Surf Campground! Walking distance to Bass Lake with a private beach, and close proximity to Lake Michigan were pretty cool perks, but this mama loved the free popcorn on Saturday nights and the delicious pancake breakfast on Sunday morning! That’s what you get at a family owned campground!
South Haven, Michigan
We went on a very very spontaneous camping trip (literally woke up and said, let’s go camping today!) down in South Haven, with the dogs. It was seriously—SO FUN. Not to mention gorgeous.
We stayed at Van Buren State Park in the very last camping spot! Two minute drive to the dog beach where we climbed a beautiful, exhausting trail but were then welcomed by the breathtaking view of sand dunes, lake and sky. And because we had the dogs, we had to go to the designated dog beach…which was empty and all to ourselves! Definitely will go back!
Traverse City, Michigan
Even though we only made it up to our favorite city at the very beginning of the summer, it’s still always worth mentioning. We got married in this city three years. Our beautiful escape, with the best coffee (Morsels) and the best BBQ (Sparks BBQ) and food trucks, and so many sights and gorgeous wineries and stores to see while taking a stroll.
Don’t forget about M22. Winding, beautiful roads through wine country. Also amazing paddle boarding and biking and hiking! It’s no wonder it’s our favorite destination, and only 2.5 hours from home, this is our must-go-to location multiple times a year.
Nuby Thirsty Kids Flip-It Active Cup
This cup. It has seen its fair share of adventures this summer! It goes with us everywhere! Z learned to drink from a straw at 11 months, so he loves this cup. He loves trying to press the button to make the top pop up. I usually put fresh cucumber slices in it, with a drop of lemon oil.
It’s recommended for ages 18+ months, but Z has successfully used it from 13 months on. It holds 12oz of liquid and is perfect for thirsty kids on the go! They hygienic cap stays closed to keep the straw clean, which means its also spill proof when closed. Score! And my favorite part? It’s BPA free!
Available at Babies R’ Us.
Nuby Sure Grip Plate
I’ve tried a couple suction plates before, I’ve put up a gallant effort trying to find just one product that would keep the food on the table, rather than all over the floor (even though the dogs clean it all up!) I FOUND IT! This plate stays put, sometimes it’s hard for me to even get it off and that means it’s perfect!
It’s recommended for ages 6+ months. The non-slip base sticks to smooth, flat surfaces. It’s 100% silicone and is microwave and dishwasher safe! It’s also BPA free! Z loves the Bear Character, available in red, teal, green and blue.
Available at Babies R’ Us.
Nuby Little Submarine
This toy is so simple, yet so entertaining. It mostly stays in the tub, but has swam in the pool, too. You pull the fin and the gears under the sub spin, making it move forward. Z gets a kick out of it as it swims away from him. When we first used it, Z was scared of the noise it makes when the string retracts and the wheels turn, but he now finds it hilarious.
It’s recommended for ages 6+ months. And guess what, it’s also BPA free!
Available on amazon.com.
Young Living Essential Oils
This company is amazing. These products are amazing. My love for oils started years ago when my mom got me hooked on Doterra. When I ran out this summer, I purchased a bottle of Thieves Cleaner, which ultimately was so amazing, I decided to take a leap of faith and join Young Living.
I cleared out the cleaning supplies, replaced all of them with that one bottle of Thieves Cleaner. I diffuse different oil blends in every room of the house, and have found many oils to help with aches and pains—my husband calls me the medicine woman.
It’s truly been a great summer, learning so much about the health benefits of oils and going chemical free. There is no going back, my family is worth everything.
